Since 1969, the history of the Alpenrast has been inextricably linked with the name Leiter. What began as a simple village inn in Riva di Tures has, over the decades, grown into a popular holiday retreat where three generations now work side by side. It is a hotel that has moved with the times while retaining its deep roots and values.
Alpenrast Nature Place is a family business through and through. Since 1969 it has been run by the Leiter family. At first by Seppl and his wife, Waltraud - today by daughter Hannah. In the kitchen it’s the new generation that rules the roost. Aaron is the head chef at the Alpenrast and delights guests every day with his creative takes on South Tyrolean cuisine. And yes, matriarch of the family, Waltraud, can still be spotted in the hotel from time to time. She does her rounds and checks that everything is in order – with the experience and characteristic style of a lifelong hostess.
The story of the Alpenrast begins with a story of young love. It tells a story of hard work, courage and foresight. And of big goals. It was in 1969 that Seppl and Waltraud Leiter bought the former village inn in Riva di Tures. He – the son of a mountain farmer; she – a innkeeper’s daughter who could not bring herself to accept life as a farmer’s wife. This was where the two of them wanted to build a future together, a life together. And they were successful. Seppl soon turned out to be the born host. He knew how to entertain his guests like no other. Meanwhile, Waltraud kept everything under control and the business running smoothly. Soon, the former inn became the Alpenrast mountain hotel – and thus a popular holiday destination, which was repeatedly extended and refurbished over the following decades. Today, Hannah Leiter continues to run the business in her father’s spirit. At its heart, the hotel has remained what it always was: an inn, a place for everyone that is looking courageously towards the future. With fresh ideas and a culinary vision that goes far beyond the surrounding high peaks.
